Polybag Guide for FBA

Polybags for FBA Prep

Amazon relies on polybags to package products. As such, sellers need to know polybag requirements for proper FBA prep. Typically, bundled products require a polybag. Sellers cannot tape or tie goods together. Instead, products require a polybag to ‘sell as a set’. Note, this mostly applies to retail arbitrage sellers. Private label sellers tend to use kraft boxes to bundle products. This post examines Amazon’s polybag rules.

When to Use Polybags?

Polybags are good for packing items without a firm shape. Seller Central is responsible for indicating when polybags are needed. However, we typically see the following scenarios:

  • Building Bundles.
  • Prepping baby items.
  • Packing up liquids.
  • Packaging an item without sound geometric shape.

Indeed, there are several reasons for these applications. Firstly, bags will secure loose products together. Secondly, bags prevent contact with dust & dirt. Thirdly, the plastic material prevents spills from leaking.

FBA Polybag Requirements

Amazon offers a list of polybags requirements. We make that list simple. Firstly, bags need a 1.5mm thickness. This prevents the bag from tearing open. Secondly, Amazon requires transparent bags. In other words, they want clear plastic. Adult products are the exception to this rule. In fact, black polybags are required for adult products. Third, some bags need a suffocation warning label. Specifically, bags with a 5″ inch diameter. Bags without a warning label are subject to re-bagging. Fourth, seal the bag completely! Do not partially seal the bag. Lastly, ensure your barcode code is on the bag’s outside.

How to Polybag for Amazon FBA

We offer three simple recommendations. Put product barcode labels outside the bag. Do not put labels on the product itself. The bag makes the barcode difficult to read. In addition, apply a ‘sold as set’ label for bundled products. Apply this label to the seal of the bag. This prevents Amazon workers from opening the bag. Lastly, purchase bags with suffocation warnings.
