Product Inspection In China

Inspect your products in China! Catch any mistakes at the production source. This protects your product quality. In turn, that protects your brand. By Investing in an inspection service in China, you purchase an insurance policy on production. In fact, did you know there are three basic types of product inspection in China? This post reviews different stages of production where inspections are important.

Pre-Production Inspection in China (PPI)

A ‘Pre-Production Inspection’ (PPI) reviews machinery & materials. In addition, a PPI analyzes the quality and quantity of materials. The inspection runs until 20% of the production is complete. What are the benefits of PPI? Importantly, quality inspectors can identify production risks, before they arise. FbaZoom recommends this product inspection in China when launching a new product. Similarly, if you are working with a new supplier, a PPI can ensure proper product assembly. At the same time, manufacturing errors occur in products with lots of moving parts. A PPI can help offset this risk, by reviewing the start of production process as well. In summary, a PPI reinforces the production plan, quality control, and final product – all before you get in too deep. Afterwards, the seller can plan necessary procedures to mitigate quality issues highlighted in the PPI report.

During Production Inspection (DPI)

A ‘During Production Inspection’ (DPI) reviews the mid-production process. FbaZoom recommends a DPI when products are 10% to 60% completed.

What does it cover? Firstly, it reviews the status of your production process. How did it go after starting? You are probably 3000 miles away from the factory. A 3rd party product inspection in China puts your eyes on the production line, after it gets rolling. This keeps you close to the process. It prevents poor manufacturing on goods. Secondly, a DPI reviews your packaging process. Does it comply with Amazon requirements? Thirdly, health and safety standards are inspected on the factory floor. Are the workers safe? Are the products being treated with safe chemicals?

This covers alot of ground. But as a result, sellers can request corrective action to any part of the process. Ultimately, they save time by avoiding any delays on production. Production delays can occur from the following:

  • Slow manufacturing
  • Low quality manufacturing
  • Incorrect product specifications
  • Incorrect product packaging
  • Failed on-site tests

Who should use DPI? Or rather, who benefits from a product inspection in China – mid-process? Answer – DPI offers value to products in continuous production. For example, if you work with a regular supplier on a consistent product – DPI is a good value service. As such, FbaZoom recommends DPI if your distribution network constantly demands products. Please note, During Production Check (DPC) is a similar term to DPI. And while DPI’s are a good start – they are not the final solution. In fact, a factory might identify some problems, hide them from inspectors, and ship them out. For this reason, FbaZoom also recommends a final pre-shipment inspection. Afterall, trust but verify!

Pre-shipment inspections (PSI)

A ‘Pre-Shipment Inspection’ (PSI) reviews products at 80% completion. It targets both products and packaging. A PSI ensures that goods prepared by the manufacturer match the agreed standard in the buyer’s purchase order. Un-inspected goods risk manufacturing defects or final packaging defects. In turn, this may hurt the business’s brand. So, how does a final pre–shipment product inspection in China work?

At this point, production is 80% completed and prepped for shipping. This is when the inspection can begin. The inspection includes several aspects. This ensure quality standards including:

  • Package Quality Review
    • Materials QA
    • Product Packing QA
    • Label Review
    • Inserts Review
    • Barcode Testing
    • Packaging Specs Confirmation
  • Product Quality Review
    • Materials QA
    • Manufacturing QA
    • Product Testing

An inspector reviews these details in a report. The client reviews this report. Then they connect with the supplier with feedback. This product inspection in China identifies risk, highlights solutions, and strengthens the brand.
