Product Repackaging for Amazon Sellers

Why Product Packaging is Important

Product Packaging Design

Fundamentally, product packaging is designed to protect your goods. If you are reading this ‘product repackaging’ post, then your original packaging did not work. Now you need to repackage your products. Indeed, packaging decisions are a function of product material. For example, glass products require strong packaging. However, silicone products need less packaging. Know your products strengths. Design your inner packaging around it. And make sure to purchase thick inner kraft boxes regardless. In the long run, this is an insurance policy. It products sellers against any product repackaging fiascos. This post discusses Amazon product packaging, returns and repackaging.

Brand Recognition

Secondly, good product packaging allows consumers to identify your brand quickly. If your brand identity is strong, it shows. This applies to product listing photos on Amazon. Make sure the buyer sees the product’s inner package on your listing. Your customer will know the full scope of their purchase. That in turn, sets a strong expectation for brand recognition. Overall, your recognizable packaging will add value to their purchase decision.

Marketing

Brand recognition is one thing. But, what exactly does the client recognize in your brand? What does it stand for? What does it communicate? Specifically, what does your packaging convey about the brand? Messaging can vary. For example, an eco-friendly product should use a kraft box with light ink. Give it an organic look. Alternatively, a computer product needs polished packaging. Marketing starts with the face of your product. So make sure you are intentional in package design.

Product Packaging & Labeling

For private label sellers, it is important to print labels on packaging. Re-packaging debacles can occur from a mis-print of FNSKU labels. Or perhaps the wrong contact info was printed on the cases. Make sure you accurately and precisely print all your brand’s info on the package. This can be done by your supplier. Note, translation errors can happen. A supplier’s English can be shaky sometimes. As such, make sure you set clear expectations. Double check. And always get proof to verify.

Product Repackaging Requirements

Amazon requires products to be securely packaged with an FNSKU on the packaging. ‘Securely packaged’ means using a inner kraft box which is tightly tucked or sealed. In addition, polybags are acceptable as well. However, polybags give a cheap glare to your brand. That’s why FbaZoom, recommends always using an inner kraft box. Make sure the product is snug inside. If applicable, build support packaging inside the inner box. For example, if you have multiple products in the box, you need extra support. Do not let the pieces jostle around loosely. During transit they will might get damaged. To repeat, apply inner supports inside your inner box. Especially, if you have multiple units bundled. This especially applies, if unit material is of a delicate nature.

Amazon Seller Return Process – How It Starts

If you are reading this, then a worst case scenario has already happened. You did your product research. You found your niche. Afterwards, you secured a sample. It worked well. Maybe you bundled a couple items together. In excitement, you chose average packaging. But, you bundled the perfect private label product together. Fast-forward. Your products reached Amazon. In fact, they sold. But unexpectedly, you started receiving returns. What?! Returns? Then, your account got suspended. Consequently, your products are stranded at Amazon. What now? You poured time and money developing the perfect value bundle. We must protect your investment! You need Amazon product repackaging services!

Damage Control – Amazon Seller Returns

Why do returns happen? They start small. And it’s no big thing. Right? Wrong. The margin of error is slim. Therefore, the rate of returns must remain low. Otherwise, a listing can be suspended. Returns can take place due to package damage. By the same token, returns can occur due to product damage. Similarly, Amazon can return items due to unsecured packaging. Or, Amazon can return items if they are no properly labeled. Here’s a list of labels gone wrong:

  • Expiration date labels
  • Sold as set labels
  • FNSKU labels
  • Suffocation Warnings.

Lastly, Amazon could suspend the products for counterfeit flags. Regardless, the most important metric for listing suspension is return rate on products.

Amazon Product Repackaging Guide – How it Works

Generally speaking, Private Label sellers risk alot shipping directly to Amazon. Importantly, their products need an inspection before arriving to FBA center. Products & Packaging is subject to damage in transit. Afterall, your products travelled all the way from China! Amazon does not tolerate damaged goods. Amazon will suspend your listing. Then the products need full return order placed. Again, this can be due to…

  • Packaging damage
  • Product damage
  • Mislabeled packaging

In the long run, no one wants to repackage themselves. As a result, they contact a 3PL prep center to help. Repackaging is a messy business. But, here are what the steps look like for a seller:

  • Recall Products
  • Receive returns at home or a 3PL Prep Center
  • Conduct Product Inspection
  • Determine product fail rate
  • Shop for new packaging
  • Purchase Materials
  • Deliver materials at home or a 3PL Prep Center
  • Begin product repackaging at home or at a 3PL Prep Center
  • Build & prep a shipment back to Amazon’s fulfilment center

For this reason, get your products inspected at a 3PL before delivery to Amazon! Moreover, do not send them all to Amazon at once. Overall, it is best to trust a 3PL like FbaZoom. We can process return orders. We specialize in product repackaging. In fact, we even offer carton forwarding and storage. This buys peace of mind for an Amazon seller.
